history

mirus was established in 1985 as a registered charity, at this time we were called Opportunity Housing Trust.

We were directed by a dedicated steering group of people from Health, Social Services, Housing Associations and the voluntary sector in response to the need for housing and support services for people with a learning disability in South Glamorgan.

Our original name was derived from the fact that supported housing was the critical need at the time for the many people who lived in long stay hospitals or at home with aging parents. Our core business has since developed into providing support services to those with a disability and a name change became essential to better reflect the organisation as it is today.

In October 2012 we became mirus – meaning wonderful and extraordinary.
