Everyone needs a break every now and then and carers are no exception. The mirus respite service gives carers some time to themselves, while their loved ones get to enjoy a change of scene. We like to think of it as a break for everyone.
mirus can provide respite support in the family home or at one of our residential houses in Cardiff. Alternatively, carers may prefer that their loved one get a real holiday and there are opportunities to join us on short breaks in the UK.
Our experienced team support people to develop independent life skills, social relationships and hobbies too. But don’t just take our word for it, as one of our carers said: “I was able to have a break to recharge my batteries knowing that my son was having a good time!”
As a part of celebrating Carers Week 2013, carer Mrs Vee Lunagaria shares her story of looking after her brother and sister and how the respite service at mirus helps.
This year Vee will use mirus respite to have time away with her husband and visit extended family in India for 3 weeks. Vee feels that her brother and sister are also getting a holiday when they stay at one of the mirus residential houses in Cardiff.
"Bhiku and Rekha just love going there and they love the people who support them who have become like family".
Vee also likes that Bhiku and Rekha get to do lots of different activities that they wouldn’t usually do.
