Victoria Fletcher

Mirus team member in Brecon
Vicky has worked hard to be a good advocate for the physical and mental health of the people she supports. She speaks up for people, asks questions, and makes sure health professionals listen to what the people she supports want and need.
Vicky doesn’t give up when something isn’t right, and she works hard to make sure concerns aren’t ignored. Because of her determination, two people in Brecon are now getting important NHS support that they might have missed without her.
Josh G

Supported by Mirus in Brecon
Josh recently moved into a new Mirus service in Brecon. He has encouraged the others he lives with to become more independent and often takes the lead in motivating them to do more.
When a support team member became unwell on shift, Josh acted calmly and quickly to get help. He alerted the neighbour, phoned the on-call number while someone else called an ambulance, and helped keep everyone calm. Thanks to Josh’s quick thinking, the team member was able to get the help they needed and go to hospital safely.
Lauren Richards

Mirus team member in Bridgend
When Richard, a person supported by Mirus, experienced a serious fall and was taken to hospital by ambulance, Lauren went above and beyond. Although her long sleep shift, followed by a day shift, had officially ended at 5pm, she chose to go to the hospital to ensure Richard’s safety and wellbeing.
Lauren stayed with him until he was discharged at around 9pm. Her commitment, compassion, and professionalism during a distressing time reflect our values at Mirus – she made such a difference to Richard and his family.
Michelle M

Supported by Mirus in Cardiff
Michelle lives with her close friend Elaine, who is 20 years older than her. Michelle has seen the changes in Elaine’s health as she’s gotten older but always adapts to her needs with patience and understanding. She explains TV programmes when Elaine doesn’t understand, repeats things if Elaine doesn’t hear them, and supports her in the community – walking at her pace and helping with her walker and shopping. Michelle even buys Elaine thoughtful gifts from her own money. Their friendship is truly special, and Michelle’s kindness and care make a big difference every day.
Laura I

Supported by Mirus in Cardiff
Laura has been actively involved with the Emergency Blanket Workshops in Cardiff from the very beginning. Originally led by the Crisp Packet Project, the workshops teach people to turn crisp packets into blankets for people experiencing homelessness. Laura has collected crisp packets, encouraged others to join in, and attended every workshop so far -making countless blankets. She’s also gone a step further by donating and encouraging others to donate toys for children. Laura’s efforts show her dedication to helping others and protecting the environment.
Craig Hyatt

Mirus team member in Cardiff
Craig has been fantastic, working alongside his team leaders and manager to provide support across all teams.
He has also gone above and beyond by covering shifts in different clusters to help where needed.
This is a perfect example of exceptional teamwork and leadership. Craig’s flexible and positive approach makes him a valued member of the team.
Steven Wood

Mirus team member in Respite, Cardiff
Steven is a Cardiff City season ticket holder and attends all home games in his own time. Knowing that two brothers he supports love football, he arranged with their family to take them to a game.
Steven did this in his own time and refused payment, saying, “I would be attending anyway—it was just great to see their faces and how much of a positive impact it had on them.” His kindness made a lasting memory for them both.
Joanne Davies

Mirus team member in Gwent
Jo organised a Bank Holiday Hog Roast at Kennard Court, inviting people we support and their families along. Lots of family members attended, and everyone had a great time socialising and enjoying the day.
A person who will be supported by Mirus in the future also attended with her family, which was a lovely opportunity to meet the team. Jo provided all the food herself and even wore a chef’s hat while catering. She went above and beyond to make the day a huge success.
Barry J

Supported by Mirus in Gwent
Barry moved into Stow Park Circle in July and has been the perfect host in his new home – always greeting guests with a smile and handshake. He is respectful of his housemates, mindful of their space and feelings, and a good friend to all. Barry enjoys helping around the house and joining in with activities.
He has come out of his shell since moving in, and his communication skills are improving every day. Barry’s humour and positivity make him a real legend in the house.
Lee Cannan & Sharon Badham

Mirus team members in Gwent
Lee and Sharon recently supported someone to visit places he hadn’t felt confident going to for many years due to anxiety. During visits to Castell Coch and St Fagans, they gently encouraged him to explore exhibits, walk through the museum, and enjoy a coffee at the café.
These may seem like small things, but for the person supported they were huge personal steps. Lee and Sharon created a safe, supportive environment that helped him regain confidence and enjoy new experiences.
Michael W

Supported by Mirus in Neath Port Talbot
Michael has been doing really well engaging with his support and getting out into the community.

It’s great to see Michael opening up, building connections, and developing friendships.
Charley Morris

Mirus team member in Neath Port Talbot
The person Charley supports wanted to recognise her for the outstanding empathy and care she shows.
Living with severe epilepsy, they said Charley’s understanding makes a huge difference. Because Charley has experience supporting family members with epilepsy, she knows how to keep them safe, calm, and respected during and after seizures.
Her kindness, reassurance, and patience help them feel secure and valued every day.

Michael Mort

Mirus team member in Swansea
When someone we support became suddenly unwell, Michael acted quickly and calmly. He reassured her, contacted health professionals, and when her condition worsened, called 999 without delay.
Michael followed the ambulance to hospital and stayed late into the night so she wouldn’t be alone.
Hospital staff later said how lucky she was that he acted so fast. Thanks to Michael’s quick thinking, he may have saved a life.

Tara has faced some really tough challenges recently, including being unwell and losing her cat, but she’s handled them with strength and honesty.
She’s been open with staff, asked for help when she’s needed it, and made important decisions about her support. It’s not always been easy, but she has kept going, even on the hard days.
Tara’s resilience and determination to stay in control of her wellbeing are truly admirable.
Shannon O

Supported by Mirus in Swansea
Shannon has started doing more things independently. Although she completed travel training a year ago, she never felt confident enough to travel alone – until now.
Shannon now catches the bus home independently after activities, keeping in touch with staff by phone. She still feels nervous on busy buses but continues to build her confidence.
Shannon’s confidence is growing, and she is very proud to be more independent.

Amy Crockett

Mirus team member in Ystradgynlais
Amy has worked closely with a young lady for several years. When the person’s behaviour became increasingly challenging, Amy took proactive steps, working with professionals to explore new strategies.
She suggested trialling 1:1 community outings instead of 2:1 support, giving the young lady more freedom and spontaneity.
The change was successful, reducing distress and improving sleep. Thanks to Amy’s initiative and advocacy, she is now enjoying greater independence and quality of life.
Berian J

Supported by Mirus in Ystradgynlais
Berian had been a dedicated volunteer at his local food bank for two years, and its closure was a big loss for him. But he didn’t let that stop him.
With support, he found a new opportunity and now volunteers twice a week at the community gardens.
Berian loves gardening and continues to make a difference in his community. His willingness to adapt and keep helping others is inspiring.
