Volunteering at Maesteg Welfare Park
An event was held to say thank you to all supporters of the community garden. Sean, who is supported by mirus in Maesteg, and also volunteers in the garden, was there to represent mirus.
In shared supported living the person has their own tenancy in a shared house; most often the tenancies are with Housing Associations but they can also be with private landlords.
The person we support always has their own bedroom, but will usually share other facilities like the living room, kitchen and sometimes the bathroom with other people. Those who share a home often find that they become good friends, and support each other as well as being supported by mirus.
Our approach to support is always person-centred; we work in partnership with the person we support and those important in their lives to support them when, how and with what they choose. We think this is what co-productive working is all about; everyone working together to help people achieve their personal goals and the things that matter to them. We work with each person and their families / friends to develop individualised support plans; they can focus on areas such as ‘My home’, ‘Friends and relationships’, ‘Having a job’, ‘Learning new things’, ‘Having control of my money’, ‘Feeling good and being healthy’, and ‘Having the right support’.
We tailor each person’s support to meet their goals, needs, wishes and aspirations to help them to live a happy, healthy and fulfilled life.
