Adrian is determined to regain his independence

Adrian, who lives in Ystradgynlais, is an active, and outgoing person who greets everyone he meets with a huge grin.

When he broke his thigh-bone in April Adrian was frustrated about losing his independence and ability to get out and about in his community.

Adrian spoke to mirus staff and said that he wanted to do everything possible to speed up his recovery, and get back to being able to walk unaided.

mirus staff consulted with health professionals, and worked with Adrian to make a plan that would support his recovery, and ensure that he could regain his independence as soon as possible.

Encouraged by mirus staff, Adrian attended physiotherapist appointments where he was taught movement techniques to keep his muscles active and promote healing.

mirus staff learned the physiotherapist’s techniques along with Adrian, so that they could support and guide him through his routines at home.

Though Adrian found it difficult at first, with staff support he soon confidently practiced all of the techniques that he had been shown.

Gradually the pain eased and some mobility returned, but Adrian had to get used to a new way to get out and about; he would need to use a zimmer frame to assist him when he walked. Although this frustrated Adrian, who previously had no mobility issues, he kept his positive attitude and was determined to continue to do all of the things that he loves.

mirus staff motivated Adrian, and encouraged him to push himself to walk further each day, until finally he felt confident and comfortable enough to go out without his walking aid.

Adrian can now go without his walking aid and even though he is still recovering, he is able to access activities in his community again.

Adrian has expressed his gratitude to his staff team and everyone who motivated him during a time that he found extremely difficult. He feels empowered that he was able to achieve something that he previously thought couldn’t be achieved.

Adrian is very happy to be out in his community doing the things that the loves again, and is so proud of himself for his persistence and determination to regain his independence.
