Get involved with #CarersWeek

We’re celebrating #CarersWeek!

About respite.

Respite gives carers the opportunity to have a break from caring, knowing that their loved one is staying in a safe place. But respite doesn’t just provide a break for carers, it gives those being cared for a holiday away too! The people who visit respite love their time in respite, because they know that they will get to take part in activities they enjoy, often with people who share similar interests.

We have a respite service in Cardiff!

Bhikhu’s birthday party with friends at respite

Our respite staff members find out all about the people they are supporting; their likes, dislikes and goals, and make sure that people have the opportunity to get involved with the things that they love.

People who stay at our respite service often build great friendships with others who stay, and families and staff members work together to plan stays so that people who have made friends visit at the same time.

Bhihku is one of the regulars at our respite service and has built strong relationships with other people who stay, as well as mirus staff. Read more about how Bhikhu’s family and mirus staff worked together to throw an awesome 60th birthday celebration.

Respite is great for people who want to experience Supported Living.

Respite gives people a taste of what it’s like to live in Supported Living, which is great for people who are beginning the transition from living with family to living more independently.

To celebrate #CarersWeek, our respite service in Cardiff is opening the garden to regular visitors, and people who want to find out more about respite and supported living. At the event on Wednesday, people will be able to ask mirus staff and managers questions, and get to meet other people who already use the service.

What people say about our respite service.

Our respite service has recently been reviewed by the Care Inspectorate Wales, and we had some great feedback. Read some of the fantastic quotes from the inspector and from family members below:
