We’re a Disability Confident employer
Mirus has achieved Disability Confident Committed status, recognising our commitment to creating an inclusive workplace where disability is not a barrier to employment or career development.

This Professional Care Workers’ Week we’re thrilled to share some wonderful news – our supported living and community support services in Gwent have been awarded an EXCELLENT rating in every area in their recent Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) inspection.
This follows our excellent result in Cwm Taf earlier this year, in Bridgend in 2024, and our good result in Cardiff in March. Together, these show that the way our team members support people across Wales is consistently recognised for its quality and impact.

Inspectors were clear that this result isn’t just about processes and policies, it is also down to our fantastic team members. They praised the Gwent service for having a consistent, committed team who bring empathy and understanding to their work, and for carefully considering how team members are recruited to meet people’s needs.
The leadership of the service was also highlighted as a real strength too, with the Responsible Individual and managers recognised for providing stability, knowledge and passion. Inspectors commented that team members feel supported and valued in their roles, and how many described the work as both meaningful and rewarding.

Part of feeling supported comes from the way we approach learning, and Inspectors saw that our training is innovative and person-centred. Creative sessions such as ‘Whose House?’ run by our Mirus Ambassadors, who are both employed and supported by Mirus, are designed to give team members greater understanding about the importance of choice, control and ownership in people’s lives. This kind of practical and engaging training helps make learning meaningful and builds confidence as well as skills.

Inspectors saw how people are supported to have real choice and control in their daily lives. They described people making their own decisions, doing what they want, and being active members of their local communities. Inspectors observed Team Members encouraging people to pursue their hobbies and interests, with activities and days out shaped by what matters most to each person.

For many people and their families, the impact of this kind of support is life changing. Inspectors reported seeing people become more independent, grow in confidence, and be part of their communities. Families spoke movingly about the changes they had seen in their loved ones since receiving support from Mirus, describing remarkable progress and a deep sense of reassurance that their family members are safe and supported.

This also reflects the vital role of the non-profit support sector as a whole. Organisations like Mirus show what’s possible when people receive support in their own homes and communities, rather than long stay hospitals and institutions. By focusing on independence, aspirations and interests, the sector supports people to live the lives they choose.
Behind every inspection rating, every piece of paperwork, and every outcome are real people, our team members, whose support and commitment make such a difference to people’s lives.
Sally Bathurst, Responsible Individual for Gwent is incredibly proud of the result and said:
“I am so honoured to work alongside team members who are not just skilled, but dedicated, resilient and inspiring to everyone around them. The care and heart they bring to work every day is extraordinary.”
This result is a celebration of their work, and a reminder of how important it is.
