Elizabeth is raising money for a good cause

Before moving house, Elizabeth volunteered in a charity shop in Whitchurch Village. Once she was settled in her new home she was keen to find a new volunteering opportunity.

Elizabeth and her mirus staff looked on Google Maps and made a list of all the charity shops in Canton that could potentially offer her a placement. Next, Elizabeth visited all the charity shops on her list without support to see what she thought of them, and ask whether they had any volunteering vacancies.

Her hard work paid off; Elizabeth was successful, and secured a volunteering placement at the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) shop in Canton.

Elizabeth now volunteers at the CRUK shop three times a week, and thoroughly enjoys supporting a charity and giving back to her community.

In the summer of 2021, Elizabeth and mirus staff members registered to take part in the 3 kilometre Race For Life. Elizabeth enjoyed the race in Bute Park and raising money for CRUK so much that as soon as she passed the finish line she was already planning to sign up for the next one in 2022!

Committed to raising money for CRUK, Elizabeth ‘braved the shave’ and had her head shaved at the shop in front of members of the public. She also completed the 5 kilometre Race For Life on a very hot day in July.

Elizabeth is so proud to be a volunteer for CRUK, and continues to find new opportunities to raise money for the cause. Next she will complete the Shine Night Walk, which is a 10 kilometre night time walk from Cardiff Castle to Cardiff Bay and back again.
