Gary is building new relationships through mirus walking group

Gary who lives in Cardiff is a very social person and found it difficult to be restricted to socialising through email and telephone during lockdown. As soon as restrictions began to lift Gary made plans to meet his friends and family.

The break from socialising had given him a new drive; he wanted to make even more friends and build links with his local community too.

Together Gary and his mirus staff found the perfect new social activity for him to attend; the mirus walking and activity group. The group was set up by mirus Community Network Coordinator, Gemma and is now run by volunteers.

At the next meet up Gary introduced himself to the group, and explained that wanted to make new friends and get some exercise to boost his health and wellbeing. The group welcomed Gary, and he enjoyed building new friendships as he strolled around his community.

Gary was full of ideas for new activities that the group could do together. Because Gary is so confident at written communication he was asked to write his ideas down to bring to the next meeting.

Gary’s ideas started a great discussion about possibilities, goals and how to achieve them. When Gary was asked what he thought was needed to live a good life he replied “a small bottle of red wine at the weekend”. The group found Gary’s response really funny, and his confidence soared.

Gary really enjoys spending time with his new social group and has made some great new friendships.

Gary’s idea to go out to a restaurant for a meal proved really popular and he can’t wait to do even more things and make more friends.
