Jac and Saffron are getting healthy together

When Saffron moved in to a supported living house in 2020 she and Jac immediately became great friends. However, as Saffron had moved in during the Covid-19 lockdown, they were restricted to what activities they could do, which led to them both picking up unhealthy eating habits with little opportunity to exercise.

After speaking with mirus staff, the pair decided that they needed to change things together. They committed to try and find things that they could do together to try and break some of their bad habits and improve their fitness.

Because community activities were not yet back open, Jac and Saffron came up with their own methods to get fit; they decided to hold their own sports days at home!

Supported by mirus staff, Jac and Saffron made an application to the Ceredigion Actif Fund, which was successful. The fund provided them with lots of equipment that they could use to get fit and healthy at home.

Though they both found the activities difficult at first, they persevered and soon enjoyed their home fitness challenges.

As soon as community activities began to open up, they joined a football club and swimming classes. Although they enjoyed the activities they were doing at home, the community activities were even more fun and inspired them to stick to their fitness journey.

mirus staff said:

“They have become great role models who encourage and inspire each other to be healthy and active. When one person finds an activity difficult or has a slip up with healthy eating, the other is always there to help them get back on track.”

Jac and Saffron’s confidence is now at an all time high, and they’re getting stuck in to their activities to reach their weight loss and fitness goals. The clubs and classes have not only improved their healthiness and fitness levels, but their social skills and confidence have increased too.

Jac has recently been selected to take part in a disability swimming Gala in Swansea later in 2022, and Saffron has joined the Paws and Pals social dog walking group to expand her social circle while getting exercise in her community.

Both Jac and Saffron are looking for new ways to be active, and are currently planning a night out with lots of dancing!
