We’re a Disability Confident employer
Mirus has achieved Disability Confident Committed status, recognising our commitment to creating an inclusive workplace where disability is not a barrier to employment or career development.

Erica Roberts, Ystradgynlais
I would like to nominate Erica in recognition of the outstanding support she demonstrated on only her second shadow shift with Mirus.
During the shift, a person we support became distressed after missing a parcel delivery. The situation had the potential to escalate quickly, however Erica remained exceptionally calm and composed throughout. Having taken the time to carefully read and understand the persons person centred practice file, she responded exactly in line with the strategies and guidance outlined in the plan.
Erica validated the person’s feelings, communicated clearly and respectfully, and used the recommended approaches to de-escalate the situation effectively. Her calm presence and person-centred response helped the personl feel heard and supported. She then went a step further by proactively finding an alternative solution regarding the parcel, ensuring the person felt reassured in control, rather than disappointed.
As a result of Erica’s thoughtful and consistent approach, she has already gained a significant amount of trust and begun building a strong, positive relationship with the individual. This is especially commendable given that it was only her second shadow shift.
Erica’s professionalism, preparation, and commitment to delivering truly person-centred support reflect the very essence of empowering practice. She is a fantastic example of how understanding and applying support plans can make a meaningful difference in someone’s experience.

Leanne Brice, Swansea
Leanne has been working towards improving relationships in a house that she works in. Her approach has been exceptional, with consistent record keeping and action planning, grounded in best practice.
Leanne communicated regularly, transparently and professionally with everyone involved, including both internal and external partners.
What stands out most is the way Leanne has maintained positive and trusting relationships with families, the landlord, and the local authority, while navigating challenges.
She has advocated well for the people she supports, confidently raising concerns, challenging where needed, and pushing for the best outcomes even in difficult circumstances.
Leanne’s commitment to person centred practice has made a real, meaningful difference to people’s lives.

Kay Virgin, Cardiff
I would like to nominate Kay Virgin for the incredible work she is doing every Wednesday with the Arts & Crafts Group at Dorothy Lewis Court.
Each month Kay designs new projects and has developed an incredibly successful group.
Kay’s dedication to the Arts & Crafts group is extraordinary, constantly goes above and beyond, even when Kay is unable to attend, she ensures there is someone to lead the group.
Kay is constantly working in her own time, to create a fun, learning & caring environment, where they produce amazing Arts & Crafts.
Kay is a great supporter of our Mirus Stronger Communities Group, the group has produced some amazing Arts & Crafts for our events, including Pride Cymru, Autism Awareness Month, and the Big Lunch.
Kay shares her knowledge and skills with everyone in the group and completely mirrors our Mirus values.

Bill C, Cardiff
We’d like to Nominate Bill for a Mirus Moment because of the courage he has show in advocating for himself and voicing his point of view. Bill has recently moved house, which he didn’t like, but he wrote a very powerful letter to help us understand his feelings and point of view.
We are very proud of you for standing up for yourself Bill, and think Terry and your Aunty Nora would be too!

Cherry Dale Team, Cardiff
The team members at Cherry Dale supported someone during their transition to a new service. They used trauma-informed and person-centred support to ensure the person felt safe, understood and valued.
The team was committed to working closely with the person’s family, taking time to understand what most to them. They learned about their religious beliefs, cultural identity, and learned phrases in their native language to help them feel more connected and welcomed.

Get in touch if you'd like to find out more about the services we provide or if you'd like to work for us.
