mirus moments – March winners

A huge congratulations to our fabulous March winners, who were chosen by our regional representatives.

They will soon receive a gift card, and their name will go forward to our mirus stars judging panel later this year!

All nominations were anonymised, so winners were chosen based only on the great things people said about them – so when you nominate make sure you include as much detail as possible!

The special things our winners did:

Eirion H – Courageous
Supported by mirus in Ceredigion

Back in November Eirion suffered a very serious injury that left him in hospital for just under 3 months. He is now home and recovering well.

At first he was nervous to get back out and about and to take part in his household tasks but he is now getting back into his routine and also being more mindful about his health and is making much healthier choices.

Eirion has shown that being brave and determined makes a huge difference! This has helped him get back on track with his health and wellbeing”

Martyn C – Courageous
Supported by mirus in Cardiff

Martyn entered a Skills for Wales Competition in college and participation in a day of various activities and won a gold medal!

Mike was able to participate in a group day which is something he has never done before which gave him improved self confidence and self worth that he had achieved this.”

Natasha B – Courageous
Supported by mirus in Cardiff

Natasha needed to go shopping for some new clothes, but she has quite bad anxiety. With the support of staff encouraging her and talking her through it she made it to the shops and bought herself some lovely new outfits.

She almost turned around 3 times, but showed courage and pushed through her anxiety to complete her task. She was very happy to have completed her shopping, and to overcome her anxiety.”

Choi Tang – Courageous
mirus staff member in Central Services

Choi took on an extra role of team leader while the finance team were recruiting for a new finance manager. This is on top of her own role as Assistant Accountant and performing the Western Finance Officer tasks.

C is the hardest working member of our team, putting in hours on her days off all to lessen the burden on the rest of the team. She always places her team members first.”

Erin Harvey – Courageous
mirus staff member in Ceredigion

Erin is very courageous. When the person she supports went to hospital for 3 months, she was transferred to another service to work. This service was totally out of her comfort zone, as she was supporting people that she had never supported before. She embraced this new challenge and really enjoyed learning.

She then transferred back to her own service when the person she usually supports returned home from hospital.  She was excited to be back and working in her own service. On the day that this was to resume, Erin was admitted to hospital and after some tests she was given a diagnosis of Cancer.

Throughout all of this she has remained positive, she even challenged the sick note that that the Doctor gave her, saying that she could work in-between treatment. Erin has 2 young children to care for and throughout all that she has been and going through she still is positive and looking forward to return to work soon.”

Mike Good – Empowering
mirus staff member in Cardiff

Mike is support worker who took part in a number of meetings alongside senior managers, directors, the CEO and managers. The meetings were about looking at the way mirus does things: what helps and what hinders staff and people we support.

Mike was brave and helped present the group work to the rest of the participants. Mike offered his opinions in a way that got him listened to.

Mike then joined a small team of people who were tasked with helping to change mirus’ policy and procedures around people supported accessing their money.  It has been a pleasure working with Mike; he shared his skills and experience and helped come up with great examples of how people can have pre-loaded cash cards. This will make a real difference to the lives of the people that are supported by mirus.

Mike is a long standing support worker of just over 25 years- this also needs to be celebrated. Mike continues to use his ‘can do’ attitude to and motivation to make good things happen for people we support.

Hurray! Voice, choice & control values into action. “
