Phillip John ‘PJ’, supported by Mirus in Neath Port Talbot
Responsible
PJ has recently moved in and has adjusted well to starting a new chapter of his life within Mirus’s support service. He is thriving and enjoying learning new skills to look after himself and his home. PJ has started cooking meals from scratch and has embraced the importance of a healthy diet and self-care. He’s also shown he can maintain his home by keeping up with the cleaning with minimal prompting. PJ has settled in well and is excited about what he can achieve with support in the future. He has shown how respectful he is by following the house rules and is always willing to help one of the people he lives with, whether making her a cup of tea or guiding her on where to sit. PJ is a very polite young man, eager to learn new things and become more independent.
Freddy P, supported by Mirus in Neath Port Talbot
Together
Freddy recently completed his college course in photography and was asked if would photograph our recent family fun day event. Although it was outside his comfort zone, he accepted and did an amazing job. Even when things got overwhelming, he took a short break and continued to take photos. Additionally, he has been organising communal activities in other services, which everyone has enjoyed, and he’s always eager to get others involved. Well done, Freddy!
Andrew J, supported by Mirus in Swansea
Courageous
Andrew has been doing brilliantly lately. He has lost over a stone in weight and has been staying active with sports, including golf, tennis, football, and walking. A big milestone for Andrew has been attending a Mirus social event, which is a significant achievement for him, as in the past, he has struggled with social anxiety. Well done, Andrew!
Abbie Latter-Williams, Mirus staff member in Neath Port Talbot
Together
Abbie and the service team worked with the local community, sports club, and various voluntary groups to plan and host a family fun day. The event was a success, strengthening the connection between the people we support, the staff, and the community. It’s a great example of how a service can respond to the wishes of those they support and create opportunities for inclusion. The team also worked closely with central teams, including community development, health & safety, and insurance, providing a good model for future events.
Samantha Howells, Mirus staff member in Brecon
Together
Samantha has recently joined the Brecon management team and has already proven to be a great asset to the region. She has worked closely with all the Brecon managers and played a key role during recent CIW inspections. Samantha is very person-centred and has done an excellent job planning activities, increasing social inclusion and community involvement, and building strong professional relationships with the people we support, their families, and local authorities.
James Matthews, Mirus staff member in Central Services.
Empowering
Since James started leading mediation training, I have received excellent feedback from my staff teams. They find his sessions enjoyable and informative, and they have been impressed by how knowledgeable he is. Staff feel comfortable asking questions, and he has a way of putting everyone at ease. I recently attended a manager’s mediation training and found it very relevant. The staff appreciate how much they learn and can apply from his training sessions.
