Sam G, supported by Mirus in Cardiff
Responsible
Sam’s furthered his commitment to improving his health and wellbeing by signing up to a service that delivers fresh ingredients and healthy recipe cards to your door. Sam enjoys being involved in selecting his weekly meals using the planner, and is using the recipes as a great way to develop his food preparation and cooking skills. Sam also attends weekly Zumba sessions with Cardiff Multisport, and swimming sessions in Cardiff Bay.
Laura I, supported by Mirus in Cardiff
Responsible
Laura has been actively involved with the Emergency Blanket Workshops in Cardiff right from the beginning. Originally led by the Crisp Packet Project, the emergency blanket workshops teach people to turn crisp packets, which would otherwise go to landfill, into blankets for people experiencing homelessness. Once made, the blankets are similar to emergency thermal blankets, that help keep in body heat and protect against wind and rain. Laura has collected crisp packets to use to make the blankets, and has encouraged lots of other people to do the same. She has attended all of the workshops that have been held so far, and has made countless crisp packed blankets. Laura has also gone an extra step, by donating, and encourage others to donate toys for children.
David R, supported by Mirus in Cardiff
Courageous
David has just been through lots of medical procedures which were difficult and restricting for him. He didn’t complain or refuse once and powered through the procedures! He’s now feeling much better.
Sarah Viggers, Mirus team member in Central Services
Together
I’d like to nominate Sarah for living our “Together” value every day.
Sarah is always there to help — answering questions quickly, often before anyone even asks, and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes. Their support helps the HRBPs manage their workloads more easily and confidently.
Even on their day off, Sarah steps in when something urgent comes up. They never hesitate to help, no matter how busy things are, and always stay friendly and calm.
Sarah’s commitment and teamwork make a big difference, and show what working together really means.
Michael Mort, Mirus team member in Swansea
Responsible
When someone we support became suddenly unwell, Michael acted quickly and calmly. He reassured them and got in touch with health professionals straight away. When their condition worsened, he called 999 without delay and clearly explained how serious things had become.
Michael followed the ambulance to hospital and stayed late into the night to make sure the person felt safe, supported and not alone during such a stressful time. Hospital staff later said how lucky she was that Michael had acted so fast.
Thanks to Michael’s quick thinking, care and dedication, he may have saved a life. His support didn’t stop at the emergency – he continued to show kindness and compassion throughout. We’re all incredibly grateful to have Michael on the team.
Wendy Palmer, Mirus team member in Neath Port Talbot
Respectful
I would like to nominate my support staff Wendy. I’m doing this because Wendy has supported me to be safe and ensuring that my physical and mental health needs are met. I have had a difficult couple of months and Wendy has supported me to come out of the other side a stronger person. Wendy has been quick to notice changes, leading to her quick thinking and responding with appropriate actions to ensure that I am safe in my home. Wendy is a great support worker who is committed to her job and supporting us all at Brookfield.
Kennard Court team
I would like to show my appreciation for the team I work in for just being a great bunch of people, and providing a professional and safe working environment for the people we support. It’s the people you work alongside that makes a job worthwhile – and Kennard is a happy place to be!
Cwmfelinfach team
I have recently worked a few shifts with the team at Cwmfelinfach. The team have always made me feel welcome and have been great in passing on knowledge and advice about how best to support the person they work with. Thank you all.
Victoria Park team
I want to recognise the amazing work of the team members at Victoria Park. They have shown real dedication in supporting a person to become more active, confident and engaged. The person they support previously preferred to stay at home and found it difficult to take part in activities and conversations. The team took time to understand their interests and gently introduced new experiences that matched what they liked to do. Over time, this has led to a big change.
Recently the person went on holiday with their family, who were delighted to see such a positive difference – they were happy, chatty and full of energy. The family shared their thanks with us, saying how much it meant to see their loved one enjoying life and speaking so positively about their support.
Thanks to the team’s patience, creativity and care, this person is now enjoying regular outings, cycling, music, dancing, and being more involved in everyday life at home. Well done team – this is a brilliant example of how the right support can make a real difference.
A Mirus Moment is when someone has done something extra special.
