Why were they nominated?

Hayley Bates, Mirus staff member in Neath Port Talbot

Hayley is an enthusiastic member of our team who consistently goes out of her way to make everyone feel valued and supported.

Hayley is incredibly thoughtful, gathering information for activities and always making sure people feel heard and supported. Her dedication and passion make a real difference in our lives, and she deserves recognition as a valued team member.

Her bubbly personality brings cheer to our shifts and uplifts everyone around her. Hayley organises events and spoils everyone on their birthdays, making everyone feel special and loved. She creates an inclusive and supportive environment where everyone feels proud to be part of the team.

As a new starter, Hayley has also personally helped reduce my anxiety and made the transition smoother. She also shows great empathy during difficult times in our personal lives.

Overall, Hayley’s kindness, enthusiasm, and supportiveness make her an exceptional team member who positively impacts everyone she interacts with.

Julie Thomas, Mirus staff member in Brecon

In the short time I’ve had Julie supporting me, she has done a lot for me. When I’m upset, she’s always there to listen and allows me to express myself to her. I feel like she understands me, especially when we talk about epilepsy; she gets what I’m saying.

During times when I’ve been stressed and close to wanting to go to my mum’s, she waits extra time past her shift for me to make my decision. She always says, “If you change your mind, contact me, and I will be more than happy to come in and take you to your mum’s”, even if she’s not due on shift. I think this is lovely and highly appreciate it. I can’t thank her enough; she always cheers me up, makes me laugh, and is easy to talk to. She’s caring, supportive, and understanding.

Sasha Hayward, Mirus staff member in Brecon

If you need to put a smile on your face, visit Sasha! you are guaranteed to leave Brecon a happier person. Sasha can turn any frown upside down with her smile, positivity and passion for the People she supports and her team.

Sasha was recognised as a future leader and took on the Aspiring Managers program. Soon after, she became Assistant Practice Lead in Brecon, contributing to its success. Sasha is courageous, managing multiple complex services with an open mind and staying true to herself. She’s empathetic and supportive, making her a valuable asset to her team.

Most of all, Sasha isn’t afraid to be Sasha. She wears her heart on her sleeve, is empathetic and supportive and doesn’t judge. She is her authentic self, and inspires others to be the same.

Francesca Cunliffe, Mirus staff member in Cardiff

Francesca consistently goes above and beyond during her shifts. She has shown remarkable dedication by teaching one of the people she supports how to tie a dicky bow tie. Paul, who enjoys dressing smartly and wearing bow ties, has been learning this skill with Francesca’s help.

Not only that, but Francesca has also been giving guitar lessons to Paul, who eagerly anticipates these sessions each week. He has already learned to play E minor and A minor chords, as well as songs like ‘Nothing Else Matters’ by Metallica and ‘Smoke on the Water.’ Francesca’s commitment and efforts are truly commendable, and she should be applauded for the outstanding work she does.

Paul F, supported by Mirus in Cardiff

Paul has been learning to play the guitar recently. Francesca, one of his Support Workers, spends time each week giving Paul lessons. He looks forward to these lessons and has learned E minor and A minor chords.

Paul can play ‘Nothing Else Matters’ by Metallica and ‘Smoke on the Water’ among other things. He is about to learn another chord to add to the ones he has learned.

Justin L, supported by Mirus in Gwent

Justin had expressed to staff that he wanted to get a pet because he sometimes gets lonely and wanted something to hold/play with during those periods. He originally thought about getting a rabbit but needed to figure out the cost of all the supplies and save money to afford it.

After research, Justin opted for a pet hamster instead. So, for his birthday this year, after lots of planning, he brought a new hamster Coco home.

We are proud of how well Justin has adjusted to the huge responsibility of having his own pet for the first time ever! He has stayed on top of cleaning the cage and ensures Coco’s food and water are topped up daily. He is a proud hamster parent!
