NPT’s Natalie celebrated her birthday in style

When Natalie moved into Geraint’s House in December 2021, mirus staff worked together with her to find out what her goals and aspirations are, and made plans to ensure she could achieve them.

Natalie’s main goal is to be more independent in her home, and together we planned out what steps Natalie could take to achieve her goal. NatalieA woman smiling wearing a tiara, 40 banner and standing in front of balloons and a buffet will be working towards being independent by learning how to cook, manage her finances by creating a budget, and taking responsibility for household chores. She’s made a great start already!

Natalie also told us that she wanted to celebrate her upcoming 40th birthday ‘in style’.

Natalie has close contact with her family, and they had hoped to book a local hall to host a surprise birthday party. Unfortunately this had to be cancelled due to the Covid restrictions that were in place at the time, but mirus staff didn’t let this set back stop the celebrations. Natalie’s staff team spoke with her family and worked together to arrange a smaller party at Geraint’s House to mark the special occasion.

Nobody knows Natalie as well as her family, so staff worked closely with them to discover all her likes and dislikes so that they could plan the perfect party for her.

Together they went through the names of people in Natalie’s social circle, and make sure to invite everyone who Natalie would want to share her special day with.

The 40th birthday celebration was a huge success, and Natalie was given big balloons, a sash and a tiara all proudly displaying her age.

Natalie said:

A group of 2 women and 2 men standing in front of balloons, and holding a '40' celebration balloon. Everyone is smiling.

“I am so shocked at how good my party was, I was so happy to see my family and friends, thank you for this it’s my happiest day in a long time.”

Natalie’s mother sent mirus a letter to say thank you for how much effort was put into Natalie’s big day and said: “it brought tears to the family’s eyes to see Natalie treated with so much respect.”

Natalie’s Uncle also attended the party, and said:

“Since Natalie’s move to Geraint’s House she has grown in confidence and independence like we’ve never seen before. A weight has been lifted off the family now that we can see her so happy.”
