We’re a Disability Confident employer
Mirus has achieved Disability Confident Committed status, recognising our commitment to creating an inclusive workplace where disability is not a barrier to employment or career development.
On Monday 6th July, ten Mirus team members and three people supported by Mirus, joined together to climb Pen Y Fan to raise money for The BloomSpace Foundation.
Amy Crockett and Sam Howells, who are both Support Team Managers at Mirus in Ystradgynlais, regularly attend wellbeing sessions and have accessed counselling services through The BloomSpace Foundation, so organising a fundraising challenge felt like a meaningful way to make sure that more people can benefit from the same support in future.
Together they raised an impressive £765 for the charity!

“Climbing Pen Y Fan for Bloomspace was about much more than reaching the summit. It was our way of giving back to a charity that has supported both of us through its mental health, wellbeing and counselling services.”
As part of their original challenge, Amy and Sam pledged to climb Pen Y Fan twice in a row! To make sure they could welcome everyone else who was taking part, they set off for their first climb to the summit at 7am. After completing the first part of the challenge, they returned to the carpark to meet team members and people we support who were joining for the group walk later that morning.
The walk gave people the chance to spend time with other team members, and get to know colleagues they don’t usually work alongside. Amy and Sam said they were surprised by how many people wanted to get involved – ten team members from different departments and regions across Mirus, as well as Berian and Craig who are supported by Mirus in Ystradgynlais, and Bhikhu, who is supported in Cardiff.
The group described the day as a rewarding challenge, and found that spending time outdoors, being active, and sharing the experience together had a positive impact on their wellbeing. Along the route everyone encouraged each other and checked in regularly to make sure nobody was left behind.
There was a huge sense of achievement when everyone finally made it to the summit of the highest peak in South Wales – at a whopping 886m above sea level! At the top they stopped to have their photos taken with the National Trust stone marker.

“Seeing everyone come together for such an important cause made the day incredibly special, and we’re proud of what we achieved together.”
Following the success of the challenge, which raised an incredible £765 for The BloomSpace Foundation, Amy and Sam are already thinking about potential future fundraising opportunities. They hope that even more people across Mirus will get involved!
Congratulations to everyone across Mirus who took part!
