Prioritising mental health

As we observe World Mental Health Day, the theme ‘It’s time to prioritise mental health in the workplace’ is especially relevant for us at Mirus. Supporting mental health is essential to our aim of investing in our staff, by creating an environment where everyone feels able to contribute to the future of Mirus.

Mirus staff members sat around a table working together to share their thoughts. A man is writing in orange pen on a big piece of flip chart paper.

This year, we’ve taken significant steps toward this goal by partnering with mental health charity Platfform. This collaboration is part of our journey to becoming a trauma responsive organisation. We recognise that the impact of trauma can affect all of us, and it’s crucial that we create a work environment that acknowledges these challenges and actively promotes wellbeing.

Over the past few months, we’ve been working closely with Platfform to understand how people are feeling right now, through an independent staff wellbeing consultation. This process, which includes anonymous surveys and focus groups, is designed to prioritise the voices of our staff in shaping the future of Mirus. By listening to their experiences – both the challenges and the positives – we can identify areas where we need to improve and take meaningful action. It is not a tick-box exercise or a judgement on current practices; it’s a genuine effort to understand what has been challenging, distressing, or disruptive, as well as what has been beneficial, protective and important to employee wellbeing.

Our goal is to reduce feelings of stress and burnout, and instead create a workplace where everyone feels

valued, safe and supported. We want Mirus to be a place where mental health is prioritised. It is not just about responding to challenges as they arise, it’s about creating a culture of trust and openness where everyone can be honest, and feel confident that they will be met with understanding and support.  This is not a one-time effort, but a continuous journey that requires commitment from all of us.

World Mental Health Day is a reminder of the importance of this work, but at Mirus, we are committed to prioritising mental health every day. Thank you to everyone at Mirus for being part of this important journey and continuing to support each other and make mental health a priority in our workplace.
