Seeing more, doing more, enjoying life more
Alexander is spending more time with others, doing more activities and going to more places - and it's having a real positive impact on his life!
We are a not-for-profit organisation that empowers people with a learning disability, autism or mental health problems to achieve their personal goals and aspirations, grow their skills, and get involved in their local communities. We employ a total of 716 staff members, including 659 front line staff who provide direct support for people.
Our decision to become a Real Living Wage employer has been made ahead of confirmation from the Welsh Government that they will honour their manifesto commitment to ensure all health and social care workers are paid at least the Real Living Wage. It is a bold decision which is not without risks, however, we believe this step is an important one, and shows greater recognition of the remarkable work of our care and support teams.
All permanently contracted Support Workers at mirus will receive a pay increase of 9%, and will now be paid £10.10 per hour. Staff members working in specialist or complex behaviour and autism services will see a 10% increase to £10.65. In addition to this, we will also be increasing the pay of first level operational managers, to continue to maintain the financial differential between operational roles.
We are now beginning the process of becoming accredited with the Real Living Wage Foundation. This accreditation demonstrates our commitment to continually pay all staff at least the Real Living Wage moving forward.
Andrew Belcher, Director of Services at mirus said:
“We hope that our ambitious decision to become a Real Living Wage Employer will be welcomed by everyone connected with mirus. It reinforces our commitment to valuing the incredible work of our colleagues across the organisation, and the difference they make to people’s lives. We’d like to thank our Trustees for their support in making this historic decision; we hope that this can play a part in acting as a catalyst for greater recognition for colleagues working in social care across Wales.”
Nick Beckett, Chair of the mirus Board of Trustees said:
“We wanted to recognise the tremendous effort and hard work mirus staff have put in, particularly during the last year. It’s hugely appreciated by us as a Board. We hope that by paying the Real Living Wage we can attract more people to begin a career in the social care sector.”
We are recruiting for both full and part time Support Worker positions across South, Mid and West Wales. To find out more about the work we do, and to apply for a career with us, visit our career pages at www.mirus-wales.org.uk/work-for-mirus or contact our recruitment team on 02920 236 216.
