Tom’s support team are empowering him to reach his goals

mirus used staff matching to find Tom the perfect new support team member to help him make good decisions that improve all aspects of his life.

Tom thrives when he is supported by people who have strong personalities, and lots of life experience so that they can act as good role models. He likes people who can point him in the right direction and support him to make positive choices.

The staff member that they chose together was perfect for him, and Tom soon had the confidence to realise that as his skills had developed, he had outgrown the day service placement that he had attended for years.

Tom told mirus staff that he was ready for his next challenge, and wanted to find a new placement where he could develop his skills further.

Together his family and mirus staff worked with a team of professionals to find a new opportunity for him; a placement at a more advanced day service in Ringland, Newport. Tom was nervous but excited about the opportunity and talked a lot about all the new opportunities that his new placement offered.

When Tom arrived at his new placement the group were already mid-way through organising a concert for the Jubilee celebrations.

Tom didn’t have an act for the show, so he used his outgoing personality and approached a group of people and formed a dance group that he named ‘Boyslife’. Confident Tom helped choreograph the act, and despite not having much time to practice, they put on a brilliant show. Tom even encouraged the audience to dance and sing along. It was the perfect introduction for Tom.

Tom settled in well and made some great new friends. His confidence and skills have grown, and he is making full use of all the development opportunities on offer.

Brimming with confidence and optimism, Tom is now looking for his next challenge; a paid job as a mentor or coach. mirus staff are now using resources available in at his new placement to help Tom plan his next move, and find opportunities for him to attend courses that will help him achieve his new goal.

mirus staff matching has been a huge success for Tom. The decision he and his new staff member made to find a new placement has opened up so many opportunities and has helped him to achieve goals and set new ones. He is looking forward to his next challenge!
