Introducing our new Trustee: Paola Spiteri

We’re delighted to welcome Paola Spiteri to the Mirus Board of Trustees.

Paola was drawn to Mirus because she believes in creating spaces where people feel seen, heard and valued. Paola said: “As someone who is neurodiverse, I understand first-hand how systems, services, or workplaces that aren’t built with inclusion at their heart can create barriers. Mirus’ mission to support people to live good, independent lives really resonates with me.”

Alongside her Trustee role, Paola is the Retention Lead for the Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust, where she leads programmes that improve staff experience, career development and culture across the workforce. Her work focuses on making improvements that help people to feel valued, supported and thrive – values that align with what matters most to us at Mirus.

Paola’s passion for equity, voice and inclusion runs through everything she does. She chairs the Disability Network at WAST and plays an active role in the National Ambulance Disability Network, helping to shape inclusive practice across UK ambulance services. She also contributes to Welsh Government stakeholder groups, including those that developed the NHS Anti-Racist Education Framework and the Disability Action Plan for Wales.

Her dedication has been recognised nationally – in 2024, she received the HPMA National Award for Excellence in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion for her “From Bystander to Upstander the Next Stage of Allyship” programme.

We’re excited about the insight, energy, and compassion that Paola brings to Mirus, and look forward to the positive impact she will have as part of our Board of Trustees.
