Welcoming Steve Porter as our new Chair of the Board of Trustees

We are pleased to announce that Steve Porter has been appointed as the new Chair of the Board of Trustees. Steve is taking over from Nick Beckett, following his departure from the role.

Nick has been part of Mirus since 2020 and has played a big role in leading and supporting the organisation. He’s helped shape the way we do things, making sure we stay true to our values while growing and improving. Many of you will remember him from the Mirus Stars Awards, where he co-presented with our Ambassadors, Alex and Adam. He loved meeting people and celebrating all the great work that happens across Mirus. We want to say a huge thank you to Nick for everything he’s done, and we wish him all the best for the future.

Now, as Nick moves on, Steve Porter is taking on the role of Chair. Many of you will already know Steve, as he has been a Trustee with Mirus since June 2023. He has a strong personal connection to what we do – his son is supported by Mirus, so he knows first-hand how important good support is for people and their families. He’s passionate about making sure Mirus stays focused on what really matters – supporting people to live good lives.

Steve has lots of experience in leadership and has worked in senior roles for over 15 years, leading teams and organisations across Wales. He has also been on the Boards of several charities and businesses, helping them to plan for the future and make good decisions. He wants to make sure that the Board of Trustees works well together to support Mirus.

Steve will be focusing on helping Mirus with our four key priorities over the next few years:

  • Working with people, families and communities to build networks that support people to live good lives
  • Investing in our staff so that they have the right skills and support to do their jobs well, and feel engaged with Mirus and valued for the work they do
  • Growing in a way that keeps Mirus strong and able to provide great support long into the future
  • Work with our sector partners to protect people’s rights and ensure people can access the right opportunities and services.

Please join us in thanking Nick for everything he’s done, and welcoming Steve as our new Chair.
