Seeing more, doing more, enjoying life more
Alexander is spending more time with others, doing more activities and going to more places - and it's having a real positive impact on his life!
When we recruit people to join mirus, we look for people who share our values; Together, Respectful, Responsible, Empowering and Courageous. People we support join the interviewing panel to share their opinions about each potential new staff member who is interviewed, and help us to choose the right people.
mirus staff member Letitia recognised that Wendy was great at asking questions and giving honest feedback, and asked her whether she would like to join the interviewing panel for a number of roles at mirus.
Wendy said:
“I was really happy to be asked to join the interviewing panel, it made me feel like my opinion is valued which really increased my confidence.”
After Wendy agreed to join the panel she, Letitia and another mirus staff member Rachel worked together to make a list of questions that Wendy could ask during the interview. Wendy thought it was important to get to know the people being interviewed as much as possible, so wrote down questions that asked about their likes and dislikes, both in their work life and their home life.
Because Wendy was on the interviewing panel for lots of different roles she had to come up with a total of ten questions. When Wendy was happy with her list she showed it to Rachel and Letitia to make sure it was okay. The questions were perfect, Wendy had really understood her role and responsibilities, and they were confident that she would be a great addition to the panel.
On the day of the first set of interviews Wendy travelled to the mirus office in Bridgend to join the panel. She practiced her questions a few times before the candidates arrived, and then went to reception to greet them and show them to the interview room.
Wendy asked her questions confidently, and listened intently to the answers that were given by the candidates. After each interview Wendy shared her feedback with the panel and her opinions helped decide who was offered the job.
“I was pleased when Rachel phoned to thank me and tell me that they had offered the job to the people who I thought were good. The experience really increased my confidence.”
After the third set of interviews Wendy received a phone call from Head of Service, Liz Hill who personally thanked Wendy for her involvement and told her she was an excellent judge of character. Wendy was really pleased with herself, and is now looking forward to being on more interview panels in future.
