Adam and Craig are fundraising champions!
As part of World #AutismAwarenessWeek Adam and Craig, who are both supported by mirus, took part in their own fundraising challenges.
If you are interested in being an enthusiastic friend to people with learning disabilities you are the mirus volunteer we are looking for!
Whether you’ve got a hobby that you would like to share, a particular interest, or simply love having a chat over a cup of coffee, you could be helping someone achieve a life goal. Volunteering at mirus can be a great way to learn new skills, make friends, and it makes you feel good!
We are looking for volunteers, aged 18 or over, who are able to give some of their time, on a weekly or fortnightly basis, preferably for at least 6 months. Don’t fret if you do not have any experience because there is a free training programme that includes a befriending induction, safeguarding, first aid, and much more. A DBS is undertaken for all volunteers which we will help you to complete.
This is a voluntary role, however, out-of-pocket expenses – such as travel, entry fees, or light refreshments – can also be provided.
Volunteers can gain experience working with people who have learning disabilities and physical disabilities, which is useful if you wish to branch into support work and social work. You will have opportunities to meet people, make friends, become more involved in your community, increase your confidence and interpersonal skills. This experience is suitable for almost everyone, even those who work or study full time, as there are opportunities to volunteer during the evenings and weekends, as well as week days.
Get in touch if you'd like to find out more about the services we provide or if you'd like to work for us.
