Volunteer at our Stronger Communities groups and bring people together from across the whole community

What is Stronger Communities?

Stronger Communities are our social and community groups, and our volunteers play a vital role in ensuring their success!

We want to create thriving, inclusive communities, where everyone feels heard, valued and supported.

Our Stronger Communities groups bring people together from across the whole community – not just those supported by Mirus. We changed the name of our ‘Get Social’ groups to ‘Stronger Communities’ because we felt the new name better reflects the positive impact these groups have. They’re about more than just being social – they help build lasting connections, and make our communities more inclusive, welcoming, and united.

Together we build strong local networks that encourage people to explore new opportunities, develop relationships and find connections through shared experiences.

Becoming a Stronger Communities volunteer:

Volunteers accompany small groups while they take part in a range of community activities in Cardiff. These groups typically meet in local communities, city centre locations, or the bay area, all easily accessible by public transport.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the Community Development and Volunteer Lead at volunteer@mirus-wales.org.uk for more information!

This role is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure.

Examples of Stronger Communities activities:

  • Social outings—meals, coffee, bowling, cinema, theatre, live events, discos
  • Wellness—walking groups, health and wellbeing events.
  • Volunteering & community involvement—gardening, supporting local causes, hobby groups, litter picking and much more.
  • Building connections—helping people feel included, making friendships, supporting digital inclusion

What volunteers can expect from Mirus:

  • A fully funded induction/training program
  • Experience & progression opportunities—volunteering can provide skills and experience for a career in health and social care, with the potential to progress into a support worker role
  • The opportunity to earn Tempo Time Credits

What we expect from our volunteers:

  • No previous experience required—just the right attitude and values
  • Good communication skills and the ability to build relationships with the people we support
  • A commitment of a minimum of 2 hours per fortnight for 6 months
  • A positive and passionate approach to volunteering
  • Compassion, dedication, and flexibility
  • Willingness to undertake agreed activities—we will never expect you to do anything you’re uncomfortable with
