Volunteering at Maesteg Welfare Park
An event was held to say thank you to all supporters of the community garden. Sean, who is supported by mirus in Maesteg, and also volunteers in the garden, was there to represent mirus.
Working for mirus provides amazing opportunities and rewarding challenges. There are no limits to how far you can progress.

When you work at mirus, you’ll feel great because you will know you are making a real difference to the lives of so many people. We support people to achieve their goals, do the things they love, and realise their dreams; and with mirus you’re part of that. Whether you work supporting people, or you’re part of the central team working behind the scenes to make things run smoothly, you will see that you’re making a huge impact on others.
Being social and friendly is important to us, and we encourage people from all areas that we work, and from all parts of the organisation to join together and share ideas. You can catch us chatting, entering competitions and sharing positive news with each other in our popular staff Facebook group, and using Teams and in person meet ups to get to know each other even more. You will feel supported by your team members, who will share their creative ideas and insights with you so that you feel empowered to get the best out of yourself, and the people you support.
We really value all of our staff members, and we work hard to make sure they know it. When you notice that a colleague has done something great in their work with mirus, you can nominate them for a ‘mirus moment’. Each month we pick a deserving winner from each region that we work in based on your nomination, and they’ll get a shout out on social media and win a £20 gift voucher. Awesome.
Each year we hold local celebration events for staff members, volunteers and people we support who’ve achieved something great during the year; these winners and other people who have been nominated go on to be entered into our ‘mirus stars’ awards. The mirus stars awards event is a big fancy occasion that is held annually and celebrates all of our achievements from the year. It’s a great chance to dress up and meet up with colleagues, volunteers and people supported from all areas that we work, celebrate our winners, and catch up with friends.
You’ll be encouraged to share your positive stories with other staff members in our staff Facebook group and on social media, so that even more people recognise the valuable work you’re doing with mirus.
We are always looking for new and better ways of doing things. We recognise staff have an important part to play in shaping us, so there are always plenty of opportunities for people to be involved and coming up with ways to improve or make key decisions on big changes.
We offer a fantastic induction programme, continuing learning and development opportunities and the support you need to develop a career in social care. Working with mirus is great for everyone, whether you have prior experience working in social care or not; we’ll provide all the training and support you need to excel in your new role.
If you have dreams to progress your career and become a manager, mirus can support that too. We run an ‘aspiring managers’ training programme that’s run by our in-house learning and development team and you will be guided through all aspects of becoming a great manager, and supported to gradually take on more responsibilities until you’re ready for a management role.
All of our learning and development opportunities come with paid training time, so you’ll earn as you learn.
At mirus we live by our five strong values; that we created with input from our staff, volunteers, people we support and their families. You can read more about our values at this link, or watch our video (below) that shows the journey of their creation.
